Bob Wyness, the Congdon family’s long-time gardener, would have been pretty disappointed with the ongoing National Hockey League lockout. Hockey was Bob’s favorite sport. While growing up at Glensheen he became quite an accomplished player on the nearby Congdon Park rinks, which were only a few blocks away. Once Tischer Creek froze over, it became a “rink” too.
No one bothered using helmets, and shin pads were nothing more than thick magazines held in place by slices of inner tube. Quite different than the modern gear that players wear today!
